Catherine Horan

A six week trip to Italy in July 1996, changed the trajectory of Catherine’s life. As a testament to her passion and perseverance, she was awarded a three-year scholarship by the Italian government to study Classical Byzantine ceramics and mosaics at the Albe Steiner School and University Academia Della Arte School in Ravenna, Italy. In Italy, she earned the American equivalent of a Masters degree in Fine Arts. Her three year course studies included all facets of ceramics and mosaics; drawing, design, color theory, clay hand building, wheel throwing, ceramic production, computer graphics, business management, marketing and promotions, art history, Italian history, classical and modern mosaics, Italian marble and tesserae, mosaic installations and restorations and monthly trips to Venice and Murano.

Returning home to Connecticut, Catherine opened her art studio. Making pottery with a flair in Italian design. Bringing old world elegance to modern day charm. With functional tableware for everyday use. Creating custom design Italian dinner ware, dishes, tiles, mirrors and traditional pieces for stores, private clients, country clubs and restaurants in the USA and internationally. Darien Sport Shop, Darien, CT has exclusively carried Catherine’s Italian ceramic line since 2015. Catherine’s ceramic studio is located in The Loft Artist Association building at 575 Pacific Street, Stamford, CT 06902. Catherine has been an active member for the past 17 years. Encaustics is another medium Catherine works in. Similar to the playfulness of clay, it is fluid and free in expression.
